| Robert G. Smith, 88, of Clyde died at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
Bob was born in Clyde on April 18, 1921 to the now deceased Fred C. and Ruby (Lacy) Smith. He attended Clyde Schools and was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde; lifetime member of the Clyde VFW; member of the Clyde Eagles; past Green Creek Township Trustees; a sixty five year member of the Monticello Lodge #244 F&AM; formerly a member of the Clyde Fire Dept. for thirty years; as well as a former member of the Clyde Police. For twenty nine years, Mr. Smith owned and operated the Hi-Speed Union ’76, retiring in 1986, prior to that he had worked at the Clyde Cutlery and the Nickle Plate Railroad. On October 1, 1940, he married the former Juanita “Dee” Hunt and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1998. Survivors include their children, Patricia Ericsson, Clyde; R. Fred Smith, Temperance, MI; and Janice (Duke) Davis, Clyde; six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and one sister, Doris Ledbetter, Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Florence Smith; one grandchild and one great grandchild. | |
