Donald E. Gerstenberger, 57, of rural Fremont, died at the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky on Sunday, October 11, 2009.

Don was born on March 23, 1952 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Charles and Betty (Hilt) Gerstenberger. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1970. He was a member of the Clyde VFW; and the Bellevue American Legion. Don owned and operated his own company, Don Gerstenberger Construction and the Industrial Wood Products.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Bilbrey) Kuhns-Gerstenberger, whom he married on March 13, 1996. Also surviving is his son, Derek (Tonya) Gerstenberger, Fremont; and his daughter, Michele Deming (Michael), Clyde; stepchildren: Jessica (Heath) Stephens, Bellevue; Chad (Erica) Kuhns, Vermillion; Russell Kuhns, Arkansas. A grandson, Blake Gerstenberger,and two step-grandchildren Ava Kuhns; Evan Kuhns also survive. His sister, Shirley (Gary) Van Kirk survives in Bellevue and step brother, Ed Slane in Woodville. Ruth Gerstenberger, his stepmother, survives in Clyde.

Don was preceded in death by his children’s mother, the former Shirley House; and a brother, David Gerstenberger.
